The Columbia Group can trace its roots back to 1967, when Columbia Research Corporation (CRC) was founded. For over 35 years, CRC supported several military programs with expertise in engineering, logistics and acquisition.

Then, in 2005, President, Martin Arase, formed The Columbia Group by acquiring CRC and merging it with CPI., a financial management and information technology services provider he had founded in 1983.

The Columbia Group assumed the operations of AMSEC Rosenblatt’s Washington, DC office in June 2008, a division which specialized in naval architecture and marine engineering. This acquisition created the Columbia Group’s Rosenblatt Ship Design Division and expanded The Columbia Group’s naval architecture and marine engineering capability, adding ship design for whole and auxiliary ships systems to The Columbia Group’s service offerings.
